Cafe Ariana, Pacific Grove, Ca

6 Mar

I love the Little PG restaurants. this is a new installment by the owner of the Big Night Bistro. This little wine bar has fresh gelato, and some great little pizza’s all in the little cafe. It is a great spot to stop and have a glass of wine and some nibbles. The pizza is good, napoletana style, as much of a connoisseur as i am it inst anything to write home about, but it is good, just as good as the other pizza in town likely. Give it a shot, you will be glad you did…

Dave’s Oyster Shake and Grill – Pacific Grove Farmers Market

11 Dec

After feeling quite depressed the past few days at our seeming lack of the local love for this delicious bi-valve (the Oyster), I decided that since good oysters cant be found at my local grocery store, nor many restaurants, I would forge into the PG farmers market.  I am glad that I did.

After purchasing a dozen blue point oysters from the fish monger, I mosied around to check out the other offerings and I stumbled across this Dave’s Oyster Shake and Grill.  I was rather excited to see they do cajun style Oyster Po boys, a delicious sandwich that is almost impossible to find in our neck of the woods.  As I had in hand a dozen oysters that I planned to go home and shuck instantly, I opted for a 2 dollar taco.

Talk about paradise.  This oyster taco was fantastic.  The most amazing batter, spicey and crisp, with the delicate oyster soft and velvety inside.  Topped with some cabbage, mango salsa, and s drizzle of spicy sauce, this treat was amazing.  I will return every Monday my friend, except next time for the Po Boy!!!

Vito’s Italian Restaurant Pacific Grove, Ca

Vito’s Italian Restaurant Pacific Grove, Ca
Let’s set the record straight to start, I love Italian food, this may be strange as I am of Scandinavian descent, but it is my ultimate comfort food (not a big fan of pickled herring).  I also consider myself a pretty darn good Italian cook, and more importantly, it is my favorite category to review.

Vito's on Urbanspoon

I had my first visit to Vito’s recently and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It has been a staple in Pacific Grove for a number of years.  The proprietor and his ex-wife run the establishment in a satirically comical manner.  They bicker and take jabs at one another and I found it extremely entertaining – of course that is why they do it.
The food was pretty good; I wanted to like it more.  I had the Bruschetta which was fresh and tasty; I enjoyed the Chicken Parmesan – a dish I judge Italian restaurants on – which came with a salad, and a side of spaghetti with meat sauce.  My favorite thing honestly was the side of spaghetti, the pasta sauce had amazing flavor.  The chicken parmesan was just so-so.
If you like Italian joints where you feel like you are at home with your family with tasty comfort food, you will love this little spot.  Problem is, they have so much competition.  There are several really good Italian restaurants in Pacific Grove…see my other reviews under Italian.
Ambiance/Décor – 4 décor a bit dated, but open with fire place
Initial Greeting/Seating – 4.5 quickly greeted and sat
Wait Staff – 4.5 – we were waited upon by the co-owner she was hilarious
Food Presentation – 3.5 OK
Food Quality – 3.5 Food is pretty good
Price – $$$ – Not Cheap 15-25 dollars for entrees.
Overall rating (out of 5 stars) – 4.0 – Great local landmark

Le Normandie Pacific Grove Ca

5 Jan

Well I have to admit I have a soft spot for quaint Pacific Grove Restaurants, the quiet cool streets illuminated by trees strung with glowing white lights.
I decided on a whim to try this lovely little French restaurant, and it was worth
the shot. The ambiance was cozy, there was a soft live guitar playing familiar melodies and hot French Onion Soup. I didn’t want to leave, I felt like I was back in a small French Bistro in Cognac.

I ordered a Special that included a large glass of Red or White wine, and Soup or Salad, and a pork or chicken entre. I opted for the half roast chicken with Jus,
it was served up with roasted potatoes, veggies, and sautéed mushrooms. Really quite fantastic, and the sticker price rather accommodating at 18 dollars for everything.

If you are looking for a little romantic getaway or just an escape to a delightfully slower environment, this place is worth checking out. Ambiance 5 stars, food 4 stars, service was good too, overall 4.1 Stars I would comfortably give this amazing little place.

Pepper’s Mexi-Cali Cafe Pacific Grove Ca

29 Dec
Peppers has got to be one of my favorite little restaurants in Pacific Groves Quaint litte repertoire.  A longtime local hot spot, you almost always find a line at the door for dinner here.  In my visit I did as I was instructed by friends and ordered the Blood Orange Margarita.  These are amazing little cocktails, and it is difficult to have only one!
The other dish I ordered was the Cheese Enchiladas, a very basic dish that I have coveted since I was a child; good enchiladas are hard to find however.  Their sauce is a little sweet and tangy, and the beans and rice round out the plate.  If you are looking for Mexican style food in Pacific Grove area, look no further.  Pictured below is the Blood orange margarita.

As far as Mexi-Cali restaurants go this one gets a 4.5 from me.  Wouldn’t change a thing except the service, can be a little snotty some times…
