Risorante Barolo at the Bayview Hotel, Aptos California

11 Jun

Alright, so as many of my audience members know I am a food network junkie.  I love Restaurant Impossible, one of my favorite shows.  As a local I was excited to see this rather lackluster joint get an upgrade.  Now chef Irvine is not Thomas Keller, however he does provide good solid recipe’s for the restaurants to follow.

This place has really maintained the ambiance and product that the Restaurant Impossible crew laid out for them.  I had some great dishes.  The Arancini was fabulous, my Lasagna had fresh homemade pasta, the Panini was great, and the service sure did try very hard.  I would definitely recommended this place, they did a great job, and the staff has done a fabulous job keeping the renovation up.

Also, the Hotel is an Historic Victorian and look amazing as well…

Pasta Piatti Ashland Oregon

11 Jun

On my way back from the famous Microbreweries of Oregon I made a special stop  in Ashland Oregon to bring back some culinary stories form the famed little town that hosts the Annual Shakespeare Festival – very well known for this fantastic event.

So after I was told by Cucina Biazzi that they had NO FOOD LEFT at 7 pm on a Thursday, I made my way over to this fantastic little Italian restaurant.  I was immediately greeted and seated, I was then helped by a very friendly and attentive staff.  It was going very well.  I started with the Bruchetta it was very different but very tasty as well.  it was a garlic-white bean pure with some toasted crostini’s and some rolled prosciutto.  I paired the meal with a half bottle of Roxyann Claret.  As an Entree the server recommended the special, a smoked trout, which was delicious as well…then I topped the whole meal off with some Tarimisu.  overall the service was great, food was darn good, and in this little town, this is the best Italian they have!

Vito’s Italian Restaurant Pacific Grove, Ca

Vito’s Italian Restaurant Pacific Grove, Ca
Let’s set the record straight to start, I love Italian food, this may be strange as I am of Scandinavian descent, but it is my ultimate comfort food (not a big fan of pickled herring).  I also consider myself a pretty darn good Italian cook, and more importantly, it is my favorite category to review.

Vito's on Urbanspoon

I had my first visit to Vito’s recently and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It has been a staple in Pacific Grove for a number of years.  The proprietor and his ex-wife run the establishment in a satirically comical manner.  They bicker and take jabs at one another and I found it extremely entertaining – of course that is why they do it.
The food was pretty good; I wanted to like it more.  I had the Bruschetta which was fresh and tasty; I enjoyed the Chicken Parmesan – a dish I judge Italian restaurants on – which came with a salad, and a side of spaghetti with meat sauce.  My favorite thing honestly was the side of spaghetti, the pasta sauce had amazing flavor.  The chicken parmesan was just so-so.
If you like Italian joints where you feel like you are at home with your family with tasty comfort food, you will love this little spot.  Problem is, they have so much competition.  There are several really good Italian restaurants in Pacific Grove…see my other reviews under Italian.
