McMenamins Hotels and Breweries Portland Oregon, Kennedy School

11 Jun

During my stay in Portland i was trying to get the best microbreweries, I was instructed that I had to visit a McMenamins, and was quite a quirky treat.  These Hotels/breweries are built on old renovated historical properties, like the Kennedy School. 35 guestrooms are situated in classrooms and the like in this 1916 School house.  These properties are very neat, and i would highly recommend a stay at one of their properties for a unique vacation, some fresh brews, and some good food.  Very Neat.

Grand Cayman Island

18 May

Wow, talk about a hospitable Island, from the genuinely friendly greeting by our immigration officer at the airport to the Cab Driver to the folks on the Ritz and at all establishment s on the island; these people are nice!
The incredible Caymanian’s aside, this island was very nice, not particularly attractive I find the flora of the Caribbean to be a little sparse and twiggy looking.  Not so beautiful as an island in say, Hawaii.  Be that as it may, the weather was a formidable 88 degrees in May, which is a bit hot for this northern European.  I do have to say that the Beaches were gorgeous and the water was an incredible 75 degrees and the emerald-turquoise color is stunning.
I went straight over to Georgetown which is the largest major City where my travel companion and I enjoyed a nice lunch at Breezes right off the main road and were bombarded by the passengers of two or three cruise liners at every avenue.  Was a very nice downtown with a watch and jewelry store everywhere we looked, we must have passed a dozen on the first block!  The tax free status I guess is conducive to larger purchases…
I was also very interested in trying some local Fare so we scurried down to the fish market area where there was a makeshift food stand and a large black woman serving ujp some Jerk Chicken and Conch Stew.  I tried the Conch and it was amazing.  Sort of like a Gumbo style Roux with some great Caribbean seasoning over a bed of black beans and rice.

Well I made it to my Hotel, the Ritz Carleton on Seven Mile Beach and it did not disappoint either.
