Johhny Garlic’s Roseville, Ca

25 Jul

The Blond Haired TV tycoon puts his own recipes and culinary style on the line with his string of Johnny Garlic’s restaurants (although I am pretty sure he already had a restaurant when he went on next TV Star or whatever it was).

Known for his spice and flare the restaurant definitely have some dishes that pack some heat. I give the restaurant an A for originality, however the restaurant has certainly taken on a franchise style feel to it.  I had some Wild Boar which was good, however nothing was great.  I feel bad admitting this because Guys is really a cool person met him during a cooking demo deal at food and wine… Keep on truckin Guy!!

Oh yeah the Brick wings were damn good…definitely try those if you are visiting one of these!

Kula Ranch Island Steakhouse, Marina, Ca

14 Jul

I recently visited this restaurant, it used to be an AJ Spurs steakhouse.  It is a large venue, and in a very peculiar area near the ocean in Marina, Ca.  There are several hotels near the restaurant, so I assume that it must receive good foot traffic.  I did a 30 mile bike ride, the middle of which consisted of a lunch at this location.
The ambiance is very good, however with the rather obscure location, and the food being just OK, it is not a place I plan to visit soon.  However, the restaurant does have a very good happy hour, and stays busy.  If your in the area, stop on for a drink and check it out for yourself.

Champagne Sabering with V Wine Cellar, Yountville, Ca

11 Jul

So after my love affair with Bouchon, I heaved my full belly up and out the door to walk it off!  I then stumbled upon the greatest little wine boutique I have ever seen.  Is it because of the good selection, no.  The Great Prices, no.  This place has Champagne Sabering Lessons!!!  I asked the gentleman behind the counter, and he asked me to pick out a bottle to Saber, he gave me the rundown, and Viola!!!!  I cut the top off of a bottle of wine.  It was fun.  Must visit.

Bistro Beaujolais Carmel, Ca

11 Jul

The proprietor of this restaurant, Firouk Shield has been a restaurant owner for well over a decade in the Carmel area, Certainly a very accomplished restauranteur.  With Da Giovanni, and Carmel’s Bistro in Carmel being a couple of my favorite in the region, this one is very good too. Just not quite as amazing.

This restaurant does have a good wine list, a great lunch menu, live music often, and very good french onion soup.  If you are shopping in the Plaza in Carmel, step into this little place, you will be glad you did.
